"The U.S. may be underestimating the
security challenges that lie ahead. Many
security experts believe that it will cost
hundreds of billions of dollars over the
next 10 years to shore up American
defenses against terrorists. They could
cripple the power grid, contaminate the
food and water supplies, or set off dirty
bombs that spew radiation. The U.S.
has scarcely started to spend what's
required."
Terrorism is accomplished by terrorists.
Terrorists are people. You need to know
who you are dealing with. YOU CAN'T
TELL WHO IS BAD BY LOOKING AT
HIM OR HER !
Bad guys are actually out to get us just
because of who we are and what we stand
for. They can launch terrorism from some
place as unexpected as your company.
In our free and open society, where 90%
of what gets done is accomplished by private
companies, YOU MUST DO YOUR PART.
Companies need to check out the people
that they have and the people that they
hire. Food, pharmaceutical, entertainment,
medical, fuel, communication, transportation,
and all companies, need to realize that they
are each responsible for protecting their part
of the U.S. infrastructure.
"As horrible as it is to contemplate, 9/11
may be remembered as merely a prelude
to far more lethal attacks. To keep that
from happening, the U.S. must shoulder
the considerable burdens of increasing
vigilance at home while building and
strengthening anti-terrorist coalitions
abroad."
